Hackathon “Innovation Sprint to Solve City Challenges!” - a way for cooperation between the local government and the entrepreneurs
5 септември 2019

On September 11th and 12th, 2019, in City Hall Center, in Skopje, a hackathon “Innovation Sprint to Solve City Challenges!” will be held, where local government representatives and entrepreneurs and companies from the country are invited. The hackathon is part of the project “Improving Municipal Governance”, which is being implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Local Self-Government and financed by the European Union.

The challenges and opportunities in the “smart cities” sector (locally and globally) will be presented to the attendees, and direct consultations with municipal representatives and experts are also planned. Entrepreneurs and companies from the country have the opportunity to be informed about local challenges and work on helping overcome them. Funding of up to 40,000 USD will be provided for the best solutions of the companies, which includes their implementation and piloting. Trainings by local and foreign experts will also be provided and above all the companies will have the opportunity to make real impact on the local and global innovation ecosystem.

The first three municipalities taking part are Gostivar, Veles and Strumica. The local authorities and residents of these municipalities have identified the following challenges as the five most pressing issues: stray dogs, local tourism, improving access to local services, public space and care for elderly residents.
